Toby Lee

I was listening to Radio 3s Jazz Record Requests last week and a track called ‘Hideaway’ a blues guitar instrumental was played … and it blew me away , but then presenter Alan Shipton announced that it was from a recent recording by an 18 year old English guitarist called Toby Lee ! Well why hadnt I heard of him and hell , how did he get to be so good at such a young age ?
He taught himself how to play guitar by the time he was eight years old and became a global sensation after playing guitar at B.B. King’s Blues Club in 2015, when he was only ten years old.

He is from Oxfordshire and amongst other things has appeared on TV in Little Big Shots and The Ellen Show . He also starred as Zack in the musical School of Rock at the New London Theatre in 2016 when he was only 11 .

Toby Lee has had 350 million views on Youtube and is now sponsored by Gibson Guitars.

In 2017 he performed the blues with Ronnie Baker Brooks at the Blues Heaven Festival in Denmark, and played with Joe Bonamassa at the Royal Albert Hall.

Joe Bonamassa has called Toby Lee “a future superstar of the blues”. For me this is a huge cause for celebration , because if we have super talented young bluesmen like Toby Lee , then the future of the blues is secure .
Catch up with Toby Lee on Facebook and YouTube , or take a listen to his albums Icons and Aquarius .
